Roberta E. Williams

Funeral services for Roberta E. Williams, 84, Hays, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Hays. Burial will follow in LaCrosse City Cemetery.
Mrs. Williams died Monday, June 22, 2009, at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka.
She was born April 27, 1925, in Kirk, Colo., the daughter of Robert and Margaret Winchell Mavity. She was raised in Norcatur and graduated from Norcatur Rural High School.
Mrs. Williams was a longtime employee of Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in LaCrosse and Hays. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, the Humane Society of the High Plains, the Hays Good Samaritan Center Auxiliary, and the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliaries.
She attended First United Methodist Church in Hays and was a member of the Charity Circle of United Methodist Women. She also volunteered for the Cancer Council of Ellis County and St. Anthony’s Hospital/Hays Medical Center for many years.
She married Robert J. Williams on Sept. 17, 1949, in Chicago. He died Oct. 28, 1970.
Survivors include a son, Phil Williams, Topeka; four daughters, Amy Wilson, Topeka, Cindy Williams, Lawrence, Susie Williams, Liberal, and Julie Gray, Lawrence; and five grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. today at Hays Memorial Chapel.
The family suggests memorials to the Humane Society of the High Plains, the Hays Good Samaritan Center or the Cancer Council of Ellis County.
