Novy Bowman

A memorial service for Novy Bowman, 90, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at University Community of Christ Church.
Mr. Bowman died Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at his home.
He was born March 12, 1919, in Fairland, Okla., the son of Ben Franklin and Emma Sample Bowman.
He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Fleet during World War II. He retired as a Lieutenant Commander after 21 years of service.
Mr. Bowman received his Bachelor of Science from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo. He received his master’s degree in 1966 and doctorate of education in 1968 from Kansas University.
He retired from KU in 1983 as an assistant professor in education.
He was a member and elder of University Community of Christ Church for more than 45 years and served as sponsor for the Liahona College Group at KU.
Mr. Bowman married Norma Maxine Sheppard on Oct. 10, 1943, in Independence, Mo. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include four daughters, Karen and Maggie Bowman, both of Lawrence, and Patti Bowman, Bobbi Bowman and husband Robert Fox, all of Salem, Ore.; a son, John and wife Krin, Lawrence; eight grandchildren, Renée and Carrie Murphy, Holly and Stephen Bowman, Bryon and Tom Fox, and Chad and Jason Bibler; and four great-grandchildren, Nora, Jack, Lincoln and Evie Fox.
The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care or Outreach International, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
