Howard DeWitt Price

Memorial services for Howard DeWitt Price, 81, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
Mr. Price died Friday, June 12, 2009, at his home.
He was born Aug. 8, 1927, in Lawrence, the son of William Spafford and Ida Viola Schott Price. He attended Lawrence schools, and graduated in 1945 from Liberty Memorial High School, where he played quarterback and still holds the record for the longest pass completion play.
Mr. Price served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, and attained the rank of corporal. He was selected to represent the U.S. Army Air Corps in an armed forces basketball tournament in New York City. He later graduated from Bethany College in Lindsborg, where he also started as quarterback.
Mr. Price was an accountant for Cooperative Farm Chemicals Association for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he and his wife, Wanda, taught nursery school. He was a member of the American Bowling Congress, and was a coach and mentor for many youth bowlers at Pladium Lanes. He was also involved in Cub Scouts and the Parent-Teachers Association in Lawrence. Mr. Price delivered Meals on Wheels, and often helped neighbors and others in the community.
He married Wanda Lucille Baecker on June 7, 1953, in Eudora. She preceded him in death on July 8, 2006.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, William Leroy Price.
Survivors include a son, Matt Price and partner Alan Stolz, Houston; and a daughter, Lori Anne MacDonald and husband Thomas, Lawrence.
The family suggests memorials to Heart of America Hospice, sent in care of the funeral home.
