Mary Theresa Rau

Mass of Resurrection for Mary Theresa Rau, 81, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Inurnment will be at a later date.
She died Sunday, June 7, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born Sept. 24, 1927, in Lewistown, Mont., the daughter of Francis and Rose Costelloe Rau.
She earned a master’s degree in communications from Kansas University and a master’s degree in education from Saint Mary College. She was an educator. She was a speech and drama teacher in Leavenworth, Kansas City, Kan., and Billings, Mont. She was later the principal of Central Catholic High School in Billings.
She taught speech and communication at Saint Mary College. She was the vice president of human resources at Marian Health Center in Sioux City, Iowa, and later managed Parkway 4000 Apartments in Lawrence. She was a member of Sisters of Charity of Leaven-worth for more than 30 years. She was also a Sister of Charity Associate. She was a founding member of Martha and Mary’s Way. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence.
Survivors include many nieces, nephews and friends.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. Thursday until the service time Friday at the church. The family will greet friends at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church, followed by a prayer service at 8 p.m.
The family suggests memorials to Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, or Sister of Charity Associates, sent in care of Warren McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
