John Fredrick Newman 1917 - 2009 Lawrence
Funeral services for John Fredrick Newman, 91, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Newman died Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 30, 1917, in Tyrone, Okla., the son of Noah P. and Annie E. Carson Newman. He graduated from Vinland High School.
Mr. Newman served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked at FMC for 30 years and retired as a shift supervisor in 1981. He was an avid bowler and a member of the Pladium Bowling League.
He married Esther Fay Miskimen on April 26, 1941, in Baldwin City. She preceded him in death in August 1965.
He later married Betty J. Oringderff on Sept. 24, 1971, in Alva, Okla. She preceded him in death on Oct. 1, 1991.
Survivors include three sons, John E., Lawrence, Danny L., Eudora, and Duane A., Lawrence; a stepson, Dale A. Oringderff, Carmen, Okla.; a brother, Lee, Baldwin City; a sister, Mary L. Hutcherson, Overland Park; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The family will meet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care, sent in care of the mortuary.
