Donel Harry Otto

Funeral services for Donel Harry Otto, 89, Baldwin City, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Clearfield United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Wellsville Cemetery.
Mr. Otto died Sunday, May 31, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Jan. 20, 1920, in Lawrence, the son of Albert Sr. and Sussie Otto. He grew up in and around the Tonganoxie and Lawrence areas.
Mr. Otto attended agricultural training school in Lawrence before joining the U.S. Army in 1942. He served with a Signal Corps unit and a Quartermaster Truck Company during World War II in Iceland, France, Holland and Germany. Mr. Otto was awarded four Battle Stars and a Good Conduct Medal before being honorably discharged in 1945.
He owned and operated his own fish farming business together with farming livestock for many years. He enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends and was a member of the Wellsville American Legion and the Clearfield United Methodist Church.
He married Grace Evelyn Storch on Aug. 14, 1948, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Linda Harrison and husband Duane, Wellsville; a son, Ronnie and wife Betty, Lawrence; two sisters, Annie Groce, Peabody, and Frances Souders, Baldwin City; a grandson, David Rice; a granddaughter, Erika Rice; two great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Albert Jr., Carl and Bill.
