Wanda Jean Woodhead 1937 - 2009 Baldwin City

Paid family tribute

Wanda Jean Woodhead, age 72, of Baldwin City, KS, quietly passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at her home. She was born on July 10, 1937, in Alamogordo, New Mexico, the daughter of Dorothy (Pence) and Ernest L. Clack. She grew up in El Paso, TX, and graduated from high school there. 
Wanda married Robert E. Woodhead on January 18, 1958, in El Paso, TX. He preceded her in death on January 2, 2007. Upon retirement from the USAF, they made Baldwin City their home in 1976. Together, Wanda and Bob owned and operated Woodhead Real Estate in Baldwin City and managed several rental properties. Before becoming a full-time partner in the real estate business, Wanda was the assistant manager of the Baker University Union from 1979-1984. She greatly enjoyed the guidance and friendships she found as a member of the First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City, KS. 
Wanda enjoyed playing bridge with friends, especially the “Monday Bridge Club.” She also shared a sense of adventure and enjoyed traveling with Bob whenever possible. She had a tremendous and exceptional love for her family, especially her grandchildren, even sharing several trips to Walt Disney World with all of them. 
Survivors include her daughter, Gay Lynn (GG) Gremmel and her husband, Alan, of Benton, KS; son, Rick and his wife, Carolyn, of Lawrence; sister, Dee Clack of KC, MO; brother, Don Clack and his wife, Doris, of Garland, TX; brother, Bill and his wife, Rochelle, of Anthony, New Mexico; eight grandchildren, Rob Nelson, Amy Schaefer, Cyndi Woodhead, Helen Nelson, Ryan Woodhead, Jessica Gremmel, Amanda Kerschen and Emily Gremmel; two great-grandchildren, Lushia Nelson and Connor Kerschen; and numerous nieces and nephews. 
Wanda’s family would like to express their love and utmost gratitude to Dr. Matthew Stein for carrying her through the last twenty-two years as she fought her courageous battle with cancer. Dr. Stein has always been supported by the most caring and compassionate group of nurses and staff who show their love and dedication on a daily basis.     
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 3, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City, KS. Burial will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Oncology Center and sent in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 64, Baldwin City, KS 66006.
