Herbert MacKenzie 1946 - 2009 Garden City
Garden City — Funeral services for Herbert “Herb” MacKenzie, 62, Garden City, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.
Mr. MacKenzie died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Nov. 27, 1946, in Chicago, the son of William D. and Evelyn B. Grote MacKenzie. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1965.
Following graduation, Mr. MacKenzie joined the U.S. Navy, serving in the Vietnam War. After the Navy, he attended Emporia State University.
In the early 1970s, he moved to Blythe, Calif., and worked in the mining industry as a purchasing agent for 10 years before moving to Garden City in 1982. He worked for the city of Garden City.
Mr. MacKenzie returned to Lawrence in the early 1990s and worked for JCWW before returning to Garden City in 2005 and working as a truck driver.
He was a member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his companion, Nancy Nance, of the home; and a sister, Elizabelle MacKenzie, Garden City.
The family suggests memorials to American Cancer Research, sent in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St., Garden City, KS 67846.
