Mark Watson

A funeral Mass for Mark Watson, 49, Wausau, Wis., was celebrated Monday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Wausau. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lawrence. Friends of the family are welcome.
Mr. Watson died Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at his home.
He was born May 5, 1960, in Norton, the son of Gary and Bertha Campbell Watson.
Mr. Watson was a graduate of Kansas University and began his career with a degree in meteorology. He later decided to teach and returned to KU to continue his education.
He had been president and headmaster of Maur Hill Prep School in Atchison and earned a master’s degree in education from Benedictine College. For the past 11 years, he was president of Newman Catholic Schools in Wausau and was working on a doctorate through Edgewood College.
Mr. Watson was a member of the Wausau Rotary Club and was a past board member of the Wausau Conservatory of Music.
He married Debbie Franz on July 25, 1987, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include his parents, of Lawrence; two sons, Matt and Josh; a brother, Doug, Lyndon; and two sisters, Cherrie Preut, Nortonville, and Tammy Watson, Lawrence; and several nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials to the Watson Family Education Fund, established for his sons, sent in care of Newman Catholic Schools, 619 Stark St., Wausau WI 54403, or to any People’s State Bank location in Wausau.
