William K. Naughton

Ames, Iowa– A Mass of Christian Burial for William K. Naughton, 86, Ames, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames. Burial will be at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in rural Gilbert.
Mr. Naughton died Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Abington on Grand in Ames.
He was born June 5, 1923, in Sioux City, the son of John M. and Florence Davenport Naughton. He graduated from West Des Moines Dowling Catholic High School. He later graduated from Loras College in Dubuque. He was then inducted into the U.S. Navy and served during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
He was employed as a field agent for the Internal Revenue Service in Des Moines until he retired. He then sold real estate for Iowa Realty. He and his wife moved to Belle Vista, Ark., and lived there until 2005 when they returned to Ames.
He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church and The Knights of Columbus, where he held a fourth degree.
He was an avid golfer and was a Hawkeye and Notre Dame football fan.
He married Kathleen Baldus on Dec. 28, 1966, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Des Moines. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Patrick J. Naughton, Lawrence; a brother, Jim, McLean, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, and two other brothers, Jack and Gordon.
The family will meet friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames, with a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service.
