Patricia Joan Koehler

Mass of Christian Burial for Patricia Joan Koehler, 84, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Mrs. Koehler died Monday, July 20, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was a lifelong resident of Lawrence.
She was born Oct. 11, 1924, in Lawrence, the daughter of Don Fredrick and Elsie Jewel Forrest Carlos. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1942.
She attended Ursaline Academy in Paola and Mount St. Scholastica in Atchison, where she was a member of the Bel Canto Singing Group. She returned to Lawrence and attended Kansas University.
She was the accountable mail clerk at the Lawrence Post Office for 38 years.
Mrs. Koehler was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the KU Alumni Association, the Douglas County Historical Society and the Clinton Lake Historical Society. She was a charter member of the Douglas County Town and Country Republican Party, Friend of the Library, a volunteer at Watkins Museum, a member of the United Federation of Postal Workers and a Volunteer of the Red Cross for 20 years. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church and a member of the Altar Society.
She married William Paul “Bill” Koehler on Aug. 6, 1946, in Lawrence. He preceded her in death Oct. 21, 1989.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Lynn Stuart and husband Jim, Joan E. Elder and husband Jeff, and Wendy A. Koerner and husband Larry, all of Lawrence; two sons, Michael R. and wife Karen, and David C., all of Lawrence; two brothers, John Jerome Carlos, Lawrence, and Don Forrest Carlos, Glendale, Calif.; nine grandchildren, L. Jennipher Vance, Jeffrey Stuart, S. Bailey Stuart, Daniel Koehler, Kalaina Davis, Justin Elder, Jason Elder, Skylar Koerner and Avery Koerner; and six great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, after which the family will greet friends.
