Kathryn I. Russell 1919 - 2009 Baldwin City
Baldwin City — Funeral services for Kathryn I. Russell, 89, Baldwin City, will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Ives Chapel United Methodist Church, Baldwin City. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin City.
Mrs. Russell died Saturday, July 18, 2009, at her daughter’s home.
She was born Dec. 16, 1919, near Miltonvale, the daughter of Mabel Adams Ferguson and David Ferguson. She attended schools in Miltonvale and graduated from Highland Park Grade School and Concordia High School. She and her family moved to rural Baldwin City in 1950.
Mrs. Russell was a homemaker in her early years. She worked for the Baldwin Telephone Company, Baldwin Grade School and Baker University. In the late 1960s, Mrs. Russell worked for Hallmark Cards, retiring in 1981. She supervised the Meals on Wheels program at the Baldwin Senior Center for 16 years, until her illness in April. Mrs. Russell enjoyed quilting, gardening and was an active member of the Ives Chapel United Methodist Church.
She married Caspel “Cap” Russell on May 15, 1939, in Concordia. He preceded her in death in September 1990.
She was also preceded her in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include a daughter, Joan Toot and husband Fred, Baldwin City; three sons, David, Corvallis, Ore., James and wife Linda, Baldwin City, and Vernon and wife Ila, Lawrence; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a brother, James Ferguson, Independence, Mo.; and a sister, Genevieve Cuppy, Pittsburg.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services Friday at the church.
