Elva M. Gurley McCoy

A celebration of life for Elva M. Gurley McCoy, 92, Baldwin City, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Ives Chapel, Baldwin City. Burial will be held in the Oakwood Cemetery.
Mrs. McCoy died Sunday, July 19, 2009, at Baldwin Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Sept. 12, 1916, in Beebe, Okla., the daughter of MaryAnn McCloud and Archie Beller. She grew up in Ada, Okla., and attended grade school at Wilson Elementary School. She moved to Baldwin City in 1955.
After moving to Baldwin City, she and her first husband managed registered Hereford cattle. She also did housekeeping at Baker University and baby-sat. Mrs. McCoy enjoyed quilting, sewing, embroidery, ironing and cooking, and was known for her pies. She attended Ives Chapel in Baldwin City.
She married Euel “Sam” Gurley on Feb. 26, 1931, in Ada, Okla. He preceded her in death Aug. 16, 1976.
She married Mac McCoy in 1980. He preceded her in death in 1984.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ray and wife Margaret, in 2006; a brother, Ostel Beller; and a sister, Lorene Coffey.
Survivors include two sons, Sam Gurley and wife Alice, Baldwin City, and Bill Gurley and wife Sandy, Lawrence; a daughter, Loeata Stanley, Tulsa, Okla.; two brothers, Delroy Beller and wife Dorothy, and Gene and his wife, all of Ada; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Baldwin City.
