Deanna L. “Dea” Lieber

Funeral services for Deanna L. “Dea” Lieber, 45, rural Lawrence, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence. Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery in Clinton.
Mrs. Lieber died Friday evening, July 17, 2009, in Kansas City, Mo.
She was born on Oct. 26, 1963, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Melvin M. Jr. and Bonnie Stanley Wackerle.
Mrs. Lieber was a 1986 graduate of the University of Missouri, Columbia, with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. She later graduated from Kansas University with a law degree, in 1998.
She was employed as the general counsel for the Kansas State Department of Education in Topeka. She had also worked as an attorney for Stevens & Brand LLP in Lawrence and as a research attorney for the Kansas Court of Appeals and the Kansas Supreme Court. She worked for Justices Gernon and Rosen.
Mrs. Lieber was a member of the Clinton Presbyterian Church and the Kansas Bar Association, and had served as a CASA volunteer.
She married Robert D. “Bob” Hoyt, and he preceded her in death on April 15, 1989. She later married Joe Lieber on Nov. 28, 1992, in St. Joseph, Mo. He survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Dustin Hoyt, of the home; a daughter, Tessa Lieber, of the home; her parents, Melvin and Bonnie Wackerle, Liberty, Mo.; three sisters, Deborah M. Messer, of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Stephani M. Wackerle, of Mesquite, Texas, and Melissa R. Wackerle, of Dallas; her maternal grandmother, Gladys Stanley, of Rothville, Mo.; and her paternal grandmother, Ruth Wackerle, of Pinconning, Mich.
The family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
The family suggests memorials to the Deanna L. Lieber Scholarship Fund at the Douglas County 4-H Foundation or to the Clinton Presbyterian Church, sent in care of the mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
