Paid family tribute
Funeral services for Ione L. Sells, 85, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Southside Church of Christ in Lawrence. Graveside services will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Fairview Cemetery, Smith Center.
Mrs. Sells died Friday, July 17, 2009, at Kansas University Hospital.
She was born Oct. 26, 1923, in Axtell, the daughter of Oliver C. and Nina Bridges Conable. She was a resident of Lawrence since 1987.
Mrs. Sells was a member of Southside Church of Christ and Big Brothers Big Sisters, where she was currently working with Tony. She was a volunteer at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was also a member of bridge and stitching clubs in Lawrence. She was a member of the Women’s ministry at the Douglas County Jail and the Welcome Club of Lawrence. She also boarded a number of KU students and was an Avon Representative for many years.
She married Lee F. Sells on Oct. 30, 1943, in Seneca. He died March 22, 1989.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Terry Lee Walker, on June 26, 2009; and a sister, Betty.
Survivors include a son, Roger F., WaKeeney; four sisters, Marjorie Willyard, June Kabriel, Joyce Duryea and Patty Letter; a son-in-law, Steven Walker, Chillicothe, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Roger Jr. and Lee Sells, Mindie Killmayer, Kim Bloss, Kelly and Kerri Mason, and Kevin Walker; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family will meet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
The family suggests memorials to Southside Church of Christ or Big Brothers Big Sisters, sent in care of the mortuary.
