Evelyn Frances Musick

Funeral services for Evelyn Frances Musick, 91, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Musick died Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at Baldwin Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Baldwin City.
She was born Oct. 17, 1917, on the Martin family farm near Clinton, the daughter of Jess Edward and Jessie Ethel Martin Markley. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School, and later from Lawrence Business School.
Mrs. Musick was a homemaker, and had also worked as a secretary for Bowersock Mills and Power Co. and Standard Mutual Life Insurance Co. She also helped her husband farm near Eudora, Lawrence, and then the Lone Star area.
Mrs. Musick was a member of Washington Creek Church of the Brethren, a 4-H leader in sewing in Douglas County, and helped 4-H boys and girls with their swine projects at fairs. She and her husband raised, showed, and sold registered Hampshire and Chester White swine. Mrs. Musick enjoyed nature, butterflies, gardening, raising flowers, sewing and embroidery.
She married John William Musick Sr. on Apr. 4, 1943, in Lawrence. He died July 18, 1998.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Richard “Dick” Markley; a stepfather, Austin “Jack” Tuggle; a stepmother, Opal Markley; and a stepbrother, Kenneth Tuggle.
Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Anne Musick, Lawrence; a son, John Jr. and wife Gloria, Wellsville; a sister, Dorris Lanksbury, Lawrence; three half-brothers, George, Jacob, and David Markley, all of Ottawa; a half-sister, Wilda Robbins, Lawrence; two grandchildren, William Musick and Annette Johnson; a great-granddaughter, Cora Ellen; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association, sent in care of the funeral home.
