Avola R. Cayton

Winfield — Services for Avola R. Cayton, 88, of Winfield, were Monday at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Burial was in Maple City Cemetery.
Mrs. Cayton died Friday, July 3, 2009, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita.
She was born Dec. 4, 1920, in Neodesha, the daughter of Elmer and Etta Laura Hicks Payne. She was raised and attended schools in Lawrence.
Mrs. Cayton was a homemaker. She had also worked at the Beauty Shop in Herington, was a secretary for Shaft Hay and Grain in Newton, was a legal secretary and was a department manager for Lerners. She retired in 1975.
She was a member of the First Church of God. She was an artist and loved ceramics, and also enjoyed gardening and flowers, crocheting, sewing, crafts, dancing and singing, playing cards and being in the sun. She especially loved her dogs and spending time with her grandchildren.
She married Richard Roma Cayton on April 9, 1939, in Lawrence. Mr. Cayton preceded her in death Sept. 19, 1980.
A son, five grandsons, one great-grandson and 11 siblings also preceded her in death.
Survivors include three daughters, Sheron Tiller and husband Richard, and Judythe McLaughlin, all of Luling, Texas, and Shirley Hoyt and husband Rex, Burden; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
