Allen Thompson

Private inurnment for Allen “Tommy” Thompson, 89, Lawrence, will be at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence.
Mr. Thompson died on Friday, July 3, 2009, at his home after an extended battle with cancer.
He was born on Aug. 13, 1919, in Eureka, the son of Earl and Mabel Wilson Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and fought in five major battles in the European theater. He received a medal from France for his participation in the invasion at Normandy.
He was formerly employed as an ironworker. He was a member of the Ironworkers Local No. 10 and was a business agent in the Topeka office for 25 years. He was a former president of the Kansas State Building and Construction Trades, Topeka Building Trades, and Ironworkers District Council.
Mr. Thompson married Dorothy Jean Cochran on Jan. 28, 1948, in Kansas City, Mo. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Scott and wife Alexandra, of Lawrence; three sisters, Wanda Gibson, of Fort Collins, Colo., Jean Thompson, of Canon City, Colo., and Theita Bergen, of Falcon, Colo.; and a grandson, Zach Thompson.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Thompson, six brothers and five sisters.
The family suggests memorials to The Dream Factory, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
