Anita Mae Pence 1924 - 2009 Perry

Funeral Services for Anita Mae Pence, 84, Perry, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Perry United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Spring Grove Cemetery in Boyle.Mrs. Pence died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at the Senior Living Center in Winchester.She was born Aug. 30, 1924, in Williamstown, the daughter of Sherman D. and Kathryn Ellouise Welter. Her father died when she was 3 years old. She was reared by her mother and stepfather, Frank D. Hoekstra. She graduated from Perry Rural High School in 1942.Mrs. Pence retired in 1987 after 29 years of service at the DuPont Co. and Flexel Co. plant at Tecumseh.She was a member of the Perry United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a 50-year member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 62 in Oskaloosa and a member of the Perry American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 142.She married John W. Pence on Jan. 14, 1961, in Oskaloosa. He survives, of the home.Other survivors include a daughter, Mary Kay Hurd, Perry; a son, Robert J. “Bob” Worthington, Texarkana, Ark.; a brother, William “Bill” Hoekstra, Magnolia, Texas; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by a grandson, Brett Worthington.Friends may call after 9 a.m. Monday at the Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Oskaloosa and after 4 p.m. Monday at the church.The family will meet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the church.
