Gene E. Slusser

A funeral service for Gene E. Slusser, 73, Kansas City, Kan., will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Parkway Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kan. A second funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Southern Baptist Church in Topeka. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Gardens in Topeka.Mr. Slusser died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at his home.He was born on June 1, 1935, in Osage City, the son of Orville and Myra Morray Slusser. He was a 1954 graduate of Washburn Rural High School. Mr. Slusser was a farmer and owned American Auto Service in Topeka for 30 years. He was a volunteer for the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Department and a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Topeka.He also served as a board member and president of Shawnee County Farm Bureau and made several trips to lobby on the behalf of farmers.He married Nellie May Johnston on June 19, 1955, in Topeka. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two daughters, Dr. Joyce Geneine Slusser, Kansas City, and Gayla Christine Slusser, Topeka; and two brothers, Gordon and Duane, both of Topeka.The family will meet friends one hour before the service Tuesday at the Parkway Baptist Church in Kansas City, and for 30 minutes before the service Wednesday at the First Southern Baptist Church in Topeka.
