Edna Mae Erwin Doty 1912 - 2009 Perry
Funeral services for Edna Mae Erwin Doty, 96, Perry, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Perry United Methodist Church. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday at West Lawn Memorial Gardens in Topeka.Mrs. Doty died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at Hickory Pointe Care Center in Oskaloosa.She was born Oct. 9, 1912, at Grand Rivers, Ky., the daughter of William Bailey and Anna Belle Lamb Walker.Mrs. Doty was a clerical worker for the state of Kansas for 15 years, retiring in 1967. She served as a church pianist for 25 years at various churches in Topeka. She was a member of Perry United Methodist Church, Oakland Rebekah Lodge No. 616, a 38-year member of Topeka Senior Citizens Club No. 2, and a member of American War Dad’s Auxiliary No. 31. In 1945, Mrs. Doty was the first recipient of the National Victory Garden Institute Green Thumb Award in Topeka. She had lived in Perry nine years, moving from Topeka.She married Chester Leon Erwin on Aug. 1, 1931. He died Sept. 16, 1975. She married Earl E. Doty on June 11, 1977. He died Aug. 9, 1993.She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Fronia Combs, Rossie Blaine, and Neva Walker; a stepdaughter, Beverly Enyart; and a grandson, Allen Flynn.Survivors include two sons, Leon Erwin and wife Cheryl, Nicholsville, Ky., and Flynn Erwin, Dardanelle, Ark.; three daughters, Elsie Flynn-Meyer, Perry, Georgia Myers, Bolivar, Mo., Lois Taylor and husband Bob, Perry; six stepsons, James Doty, Larry Doty, Robert Doty, Donald Doty and Ronald Doty, all of Topeka, and Gary Doty, St. Marys; three stepdaughters, Monte Prentiss and Betty Slater, both of Topeka, and Earleen Constantino, Beach Park, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.The family suggests memorials to Perry United Methodist Church, sent in care of the funeral home, P.O.
