Loyd A. Straub

Hiawatha — Graveside services for Loyd A. Straub, 70, Baldwin City, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Mount Hope Cemetery in Hiawatha, with the Rev. Priscilla Davies officiating.Mr. Straub died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at his home.He was born Sept. 7, 1938, in Horton, the son of F. Keith and Ethel Erickson Straub. He graduated from Centerville High School, in Centerville, Iowa, in 1956.After moving to Hiawatha, Mr. Straub joined the U.S. Army Reserve unit in Seneca. He earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Missouri Western University.He began working for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1960. He retired from the USDA as assistant state conservationist in Indiana in 1994.Mr. Straub was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Hiawatha, the Lions Club in Mahomet, Ill., and the American Legion in Indianapolis. He enjoyed golf, fishing and family gatherings.He married Annalouise Christy on Nov. 27, 1958. She survives, of the home. Other survivors include two brothers, David and wife Myra, and Galen and wife Cheryl; a daughter, Barbara; a son, Les and wife Terri; five grandchildren, Amy, Susan, Shawn, Maria and Eva; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-grandson, Keith M. Straub.The family will meet friends from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Baldwin City.The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Hospice Care, sent in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, 124 S.
