Jon Dolph Johnson 1945 - 2009
Jon Dolph Johnson, 63, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, in São Paulo, Brazil.He was born Aug. 27, 1945, in Topeka, the son of Harry F. and Dorothea S. Johnson, and grew up in Wymore, Neb. He graduated from Wymore High School in 1963 and enrolled at Kansas University.At KU, he was an active member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, was involved in student government and helped organize KU’s first rugby team. He received his degree in 1967 and enrolled at the American Institute of Foreign Trade in Scottsdale, Ariz.He was employed by Crown Zellerbach and later Global Transport. In 1970 he moved to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he organized his own executive search firm. He was subsequently hired by Spencer Stuart and became a member of the board of directors. He also opened and supervised Spencer Stuart offices in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Santiago, Chile, while operating the South American headquarters in São Paulo. After 25 years he began working for Russell Reynolds and later TMP.Survivors include a son, Diego Dolph Johnson, of Uruguay; a daughter, Lara de Valle Johnson, of Argentina; his mother, Dorothea S. Johnson, Wymore, Neb.; two brothers, Lance Johnson, of Wymore, Neb., and Charles Johnson and wife Cathy, Beaufort, S.C.; niece Elizabeth Johnson of Palm Desert, Calif.; nephews Steve Johnson of Beaufort, S.C., and Scott Johnson of Denver and their children; and numerous cousins.He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Simons, of Lawrence, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Johnson, Topeka; and his father, Harry F. Johnson, Wymore, Neb.The Harry F. Johnson Family, Relatives, Friends and Classmates have established a scholarship in Mr. Johnson’s name for graduating seniors from Wymore Southern High School, to be administered by the Wymore Southern Foundation.
