Richard Garrett Keegan 2009 - 1925 Lawrence
Private family services for Richard Garrett Keegan, 83, Lawrence, will be at a later date.Mr. Keegan died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born May 8, 1925, in Denver, the son of William Garrett and Emily Marie Perkins Keegan.He attended Denver East High School where he was in the Drum and Fife Corps. He graduated in three years from Denver University.Mr. Keegan served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was wounded at Leyte Gulf in the Philippines and received the Purple Heart.He was an IRS agent for 33 years and retired in 1980. He also owned Kaw Valley Films and Keegan Accounting.He enjoyed model railroading, playing golf, RVing and bridge playing. He was a Catholic.Mr. Keegan married Mary Jane Morford on March 16, 1947. She died Dec. 18, 2005.He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Patrick, and a granddaughter, Melissa Wierman.Survivors include three daughters, Linda Diane Dirks, Taunton, Mass., Christine Wierman, Minneapolis, and Debbie Schmidt, Lawrence; a son, Garrett, Canon City, Colo.; six grandchildren, Kristin Dirks, Samantha Reid, Molly Wierman, Amanda Schmidt and Mitchell and Grant Keegan; and two great-grandchildren, Nathan Reid and Gabriel Bunch.The family suggests memorials to the Employee Recognition Fund at Brandon Woods, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.Online condolences may be sent at warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Keegan.
