Devon F. Knoll 1939 - 2009 Topeka
Topeka — Mass of Christian Burial for Devon F. Knoll, 69, Topeka, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Topeka. Inurnment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Topeka.Mr. Knoll died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at his home after a long battle with cancer. He lived at Perry Lake for more than 30 years before returning to Topeka in 2003.He was born June 18, 1939, in Zurich, Kan., the son of Adam and Barbara Sander Knoll. He graduated from Victoria High School and received a Bachelor of Arts from Fort Hays State University. He received a Master of Public Administration from Kansas University and a Master of Administration of Justice from Wichita State University.Mr. Knoll worked for the Allen County Welfare Department in Iola. He then worked for the Kansas Department of Parole and Probation and the Kansas Department of Corrections from 1965 to 1994. He was a parole officer in Shawnee, Jefferson, Franklin and Douglas counties and served as director of the Kansas Parole Board.After retirement, he worked part time for Meals on Wheels in Shawnee and Jefferson counties. He was honored as the 1990 Non-Uniformed Employee of the Year by the Kansas Department of Corrections. He was appointed a member of the State Board of Indigents’ Defense Services by Gov. Bill Graves in 1997 and 2000.Mr. Knoll was the current president of the Meadowlark New Voice Club of Northeast Kansas after becoming a neck breather in 2006. Mr. Knoll was an avid KU fan and volunteered as an usher at football and men’s basketball games for more than 35 years. He also enjoyed sailing, fishing, watching sports and spending time with family.He married Janice “Jan” Turner on May 8, 1965, in Iola. She survives.Other survivors include a son, Christopher and wife Weiqian, Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter, Kelley Berryman and husband Jason, Topeka; five brothers, Wayne and wife Beatrice Ann, Springfield, Va., Omer, of Palco, Lester, Gilbert, Ariz., Carroll, Garden City, and Larry, Littleton, Colo.; two sisters, Iris Knoll, Victoria, and Jane Tenney and husband Jim, St. George, Utah; and two grandchildren, Alec and Myah Berryman.The family will meet friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home in Topeka, where a parish rosary will begin at 7 p.m.The family suggests memorials to Most Pure Heart of Mary Church, St. Fidelis Church or Midland Hospice House, sent in care of the funeral home, 2801 S.W.
