Richard Arlyn Brown

A memorial service for Richard Arlyn Brown, 81, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Private burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. Brown died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born Oct. 19, 1927, in Jacksonville, Ill., the son of Irwin A. and Edna L. Huddleston Brown. He graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1945, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Kansas University in 1950. He served in Korea with the 7th Infantry Division Signal Company as a radio operator during the Korean War. He continued his interest in radio as an amateur radio operator. He worked as a technical writer for Wilcox Electric/Northrup Corp. in Kansas City, Mo. Later he worked for Capitol Federal Savings in Lawrence, retiring in 1992.Mr. Brown was a former member of the Douglas County Amateur Radio Club and the ARC of Douglas County. He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Lawrence.He married Justyn Elliott on March 28, 1951, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.Other survivors include two daughters, Teresa K. Brown, Tonganoxie, and Marsha L. Howe and husband Michael, Bradenton, Fla.He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, C.
