Carroll Lashbrook 1928 - 2009 Lawrence
Memorial services for Carroll Lashbrook, 80, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date.Mr. Lashbrook died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at his home, from complications of pulmonary fibrosis. He was born July 20, 1928, in Algona, Iowa, the third son of Jess and Katherine Burtis Lashbrook. He graduated from Algona high school and later attended business college. Mr. Lashbrook served in the U.S. Navy for eight years, discharged as a First Class Aviation Electrician in 1955. He then worked as a salesman for Builder’s Supply of Mason City, Iowa, until his retirement in 1986. He enjoyed golf, watching all sports, his friends and spending time with his family. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 14, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Eagles Lodge in Lawrence.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Presthus Lashbrook in February 1983; a daughter, Debra Lashbrook Angell; a sister, Fae Lashbrook Bode; and his parents.He married Katie Larsen Grimmond on Sept. 1, 1984. She survives of the home. Other survivors include three sons, Dain, Wichita, Michael and wife Julie, Mason City, Iowa, and Mark and wife Lisa, Kansas City, Kan.; three brothers, Harlan and wife Lois, Claremont, Calif., Robert and wife Maxine, Emmetsburg, Iowa, and Del and wife Lucille, Tigard, Ore.; four stepdaughters, Jeanie Strong and husband Michael, Monterey Valley, Calif., Mary Lee Kreger and husband Tom, Kenai, Alaska, Carol Ramaekers and husband Marty, Mason City, Iowa, and Elizabeth Grimmond and companion Carl Allenbaum, Yellowstone, Wyo.; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home before the service.The family suggests memorials to the Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation, and Hospice Care, sent in care of the funeral home.Online condolences may be sent at rumsey-yost.com.
