Arvie Winston Southard

Funeral services for Arvie Winston Southard Jr., 54, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. Southard died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born on Sept. 4, 1954, the son of Arvie Winston Sr. and Helen Louise Simpson Southard Hardy.Mr. Southard attended Platte College in Kansas City, Kan., where he received his B.A. in accounting. He was employed as a photographer at Zercher Photo. He also worked at TRW Rubber Plant. He was a musician, playing lead guitar for Resitation, Torch II and Torch II Crew. He enjoyed reading and music.He married Selma Marie Brown on June 17, 1972, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include his mother, Kansas City, Mo.; a son, Christopher, Lawrence; his golden retriever, Nakita; two sisters, Thelma L. Bryant, Kansas City, Mo., and Mitzi Brown and husband Albert Sr., Lee’s Summit, Mo.; nieces and nephews Monta Harris, Robin Williams, Drenna Gilmore, Barry Smith, James Bryant Jr., Albert Brown Jr., Brian Brown and Michelle Brown; and his Uncle Merle Southard and Aunt Irene Southard.
