Opal Rappard

Funeral services for Opal Rappard, 92, Raymore, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Raymore. Burial will be in Worden Cemetery in Baldwin City, Kan.Mrs. Rappard died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, in Raymore.She was born Dec. 2, 1916, in Newton, Kan., the daughter of the Rev. George W. and Laura Landis.Mrs. Rappard was a tailor and started sewing at age 13. She was a former resident of Lawrence, Kan., where she was active in the former EUB church, which is now Central United Methodist Church. Mrs. Rappard taught 4- and 5-year-olds for many years and helped with the youth.She was secretary for the Lawrence High School cafeteria and later in the English department at Kansas University. She also had lived in Bella Vista, Ark.Mrs. Rappard was a longtime resident of Foxwood Springs Living Center in Raymore, where she was active in Stephen Ministries. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing bingo and working on puzzles.She married Ivan Rappard. They shared 65 years of marriage. He preceded her in death in 2003.Survivors include three children, Janice Klamm and husband Max, Pat Linnhoff, and Ronald Rappard and wife Susan, all of the Kansas City area; a brother, George Landis, Raymore; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Melcher Lounge at Foxwood Springs Living Center.The family will meet friends from noon to 1 p.m. Friday before services at the church.The family suggests memorials to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Fellowship of Johnor Worden United Methodist Church, sent in care of Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W.
