Elizabeth Ann Shipp

Memorial services for Elizabeth Ann “Beth” Shipp, 65, Lawrence, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Shipp died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.She was born March 21, 1943, in Independence, Kan., the daughter of John and Frances Schiesser McKown. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1961. She later graduated from Sterling College with a bachelor’s degree in education. After graduating, she took a mission trip to Alaska where she taught briefly.Mrs. Shipp taught in Topeka for six years. In 1976, she began teaching first grade and later kindergarten at Nottingham Elementary School in Eudora, and retired in 2005. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and its bell choir, the Presbyterian Women’s Circle, the board of directors of the First Presbyterian Church Preschool, the Eudora National Education Association, the Happy Time Squares Dance Club, and the Ka-Mo recreational vehicle group. She also delivered Meals on Wheels and served at the Lawrence Interdenom-inational Nutrition Kitchen.She married Robert E. “Bob” Shipp on June 19, 1966, in Topeka. He survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Edward, New York; a daughter, Rebecca Hardie and husband Jeff, Lawrence; her mother, Frances McKown, Lawrence; two brothers, Thomas McKown, Los Alamos, N.M., and William McKown, Olathe; a sister, Mary Curry, Atwater, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Bailey, Ryan, and Cameron Hardie.The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.The family suggests memorials to the church, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home & Crematory.Online condolences may be sent at rumsey-yost.com.
