Funeral services for Lillian I. Jackson, 99, Lawrence, will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ottawa. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Concordia.Mrs. Jackson died Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at Brandon Woods at Alvamar.She was born on Jan. 15, 1909, in Esbon, the daughter of George Johanek and Anna Benisek Johanek. She graduated from Esbon High School with the class of 1927. She attended college in St. Louis.She had lived in Lawrence for the last 2 1/2 years, moving from Ottawa, where she had lived since 1995. She had also lived in Concordia and Goodland.Mrs. Jackson was a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in Esbon in the 1930s. In the 1950s she was a substitute teacher in Goodland. In the 1960s she was a librarian in Goodland and was instrumental in establishing a new library for the community. She was also a homemaker.She was a member of the Ottawa Retired Teachers Association, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart Altar Society, all of Ottawa.She married Ralph R. Jackson on June 1, 1935 in Esbon. He preceded her in death on Feb. 22, 1983.Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Harber and husband Gus, Ottawa, and Karen Harrison and husband Bill, Minneapolis, Minn.; a son, John Jackson and wife Kim, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Josephine Frost, Esbon; 10 grandchildren, Sydney Olsen, Leah Stich, Jason Harrison, Kelli Edell, Lori Krafft, Nicol Bruner, Giles Daniel and Nathan Harber, and Brian and Emily Jackson; and six great-grandchildren.She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Alma Johanek, Martha Johanek and Mary Gass, two brothers, Paul Johanek and Fred Johanek, and a granddaughter, Gretchen Harrison.Friends may call after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and the family will meet friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.The family suggests memorials to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, sent in care of the mortuary, 235 S.
