John Bert Clark 1943 - 2009 Independence, Mo.
Funeral services for John Bert Clark, 65, Independence, will be at 2 p.m. today at Messiah Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Kansas City, Mo.
Mr. Clark died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, in Independence.
He was born Nov. 6, 1943, in Wichita, Kan., the son of Henry and Marian Lantz Clark. He attended Mayfield Grade School and graduated from Wellington High School. As a youth, he was active in 4-H, where he showed Duroc swine and Angus cattle.
Mr. Clark earned an accounting degree from Southwestern College in Winfield in 1966. He worked for Ralston Purina, the Vendo Company, and Ram Furs before becoming the business manager for Ararat Shrine Temple in Kansas City, Mo., where he worked for 23 years. Mr. Clark was an elder of Messiah Lutheran Church, a member of the Jackson County 4-H Foundation, and a former member of the Spina Bifida Association of Kansas City. He was also a Kansas City Chiefs fan.
He married Jane Ann Schlickau on Aug. 6, 1966. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include three sisters, Dolly Casko and husband John, Melbourne, Fla., Helen Clark, Lawrence, Kan., and Mary Paxson and husband Larry, Argonia, Kan.; a brother-in-law, John Schlickau and wife Jane, Argonia, Kan.; two aunts, Kate Archer, Green Mountain Falls, Colo., and Marjy Cottle and husband Fred, South Haven, Kan.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Matthew in 2004 and Thad in 2008.
The family suggests memorials to the Ararat Shrine Hospital Transportation Fund, 5100 Ararat Drive, Kansas City, MO 64129; the Truman Heartland Community Foundation, 300 N. Osage, Independence, MO 64050; or to Messiah Lutheran Church, 613 S. Main St., Independence, MO 64050.
