Justyn E. Brown 1930 - 2009 Lawrence
Memorial services for Justyn E. Brown, 78, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Private burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.Mrs. Brown died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.She was born July 30, 1930, in Lawrence, the daughter of Ural B. and Arla Wyatt Elliott. Mrs. Brown graduated from Liberty Memorial High School and attended Kansas University. She worked at KU’s University Press while in college. She worked in the farm loan department at Kansas City Life Insurance Co. for several years. She was a homemaker until 1976 when she went to work for Capitol Federal Savings in Lawrence. She retired in 1995.Mrs. Brown was a member of the ARC of Douglas County, serving as president, treasurer and board member for many years. She was a member of the Douglas County Genealogical Society, serving several terms as treasurer. She was a life member of First United Methodist Church in Lawrence, Friendly Hands Circle at the church and the Autumn Club.She married Richard A. Brown on March 28, 1951, in Lawrence. He preceded her in death Jan. 13, 2009.She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Joan.Survivors include two daughters, Teresa K. Brown, Tonganoxie, and Marsha L. Howe and husband Michael, Bradenton, Fla. The family suggest memorials to Cottonwood Inc., sent in care of the mortuary.Online condolences may be sent at warrenmcelwain .com, subject: Brown.
