Adeline Jane Janzen

A private service for Adeline Jane Janzen, 82, Topeka, formerly of Lawrence, was conducted Jan. 13 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence. Ms. Janzen died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka.She was born Feb. 6, 1926, in Marion, the daughter of Paul and Lillie Janzen. She was taught to sing and play musical instruments, chiefly the guitar, by her mother. She and her sisters performed at schools, churches, county fairs, amateur shows and on the radio as The Janzen Sisters. After she married she continued to perform occasionally throughout the years in several states, on the radio in Denver and on television in Sacramento, Calif. In 1967, she moved to Lawrence, where she worked as a restaurant supervisor and waitress, retiring in 1983.She married Lee Darner in 1946. Survivors include a daughter, Lynn Michelle Scannell, Topeka; a son, Bryan Darner Janzen, Paint Rock, Texas; two sisters, LaVera Cline and Vierna Knisley; two brothers, Arlie, of Abilene, and Charles; and two grandchildren.Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.Online condolences may be sent at rumsey-yost.com.
