Evelyne G. Christian 1918 - 2009 Lawrence
Funeral services for Evelyne G. Christian, 90, will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lawrence Free Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Clinton Cemetery.Mrs. Christian died Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.She was born May 25, 1918, at Richland, the daughter of James Phillip and Jennie Bell Simmons Heyl. She was a longtime resident of Douglas County.Mrs. Christian grew up in Richland. She lived on a farm in the Worden area for 60 years. She was a homemaker. She worked in Ottawa at Parmelee Plastics. She was a self-employed house cleaner for contractors. She enjoyed fishing and camping with her family. She also enjoyed oil painting, gardening and cooking family dinners.She married George W. Christian on June 27, 1936. He died May 6, 1997.Survivors include three daughters, Shirley Patterson and husband Joe, Lawrence, Janet Means and husband Jim, McLouth, and Connie Flory and husband Murray, Lawrence; three sons, Vernon Christian and wife Joan, Baldwin City, Jim Christian and wife Tina, Lawrence, and Raymond Christian and wife Ann, Overbrook; 25 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.The family will greet friends from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care or Lawrence Free Methodist Church, sent in care of the mortuary.Online condolences may be sent at warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Christian.
