William Thomas Harmon Jr.

Services for William Thomas “Tom” Harmon Jr., 47, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Harmon died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Jan. 18, 1962, in Lawrence, the son of William Thomas Sr. and Judy Gay Shelby Harmon. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1980 and attended Kansas University from 1980-1983.
Mr. Harmon worked at Weaver’s Department Store, Centenary United Methodist Church, Lawrence school district food service, Deerfield School and Southwest Junior High School. He also was owner of Tom’s Cleaning Service for 18 years, and had been a stay-at-home dad.
He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, was the PTO President at Woodlawn School, was on the Woodlawn Site Council, and served 10 years as carnival chairman and 10 years as a room parent and classroom volunteer. He was also a CUMC Festival of Nativities co-founder. He was awarded the “Friends of Education Award.”
He married Robin Miller on Oct. 3, 1982, in Lawrence. They had celebrated 27 years of marriage. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, William Thomas III and John Patrick and fiancee Kelly Forsyth, all of Lawrence; his parents, Tom Sr. and Judy Harmon, Lawrence; a brother, Terry Lee Harmon and wife Tracy, Overbrook; a sister, Debbie Sawyer and husband Don, North Carolina; and nephews Cayden and Colton Harmon.
Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
