Junior K. Heverty

Funeral services for Junior K. “J.R.” Haverty, 82, Hutchinson, were Tuesday at Elliott Chapel in Hutchinson. Private family graveside services will be at a later date.
Mr. Haverty died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at Wesley Towers, Thorne Care Center, in Hutchinson.
He was born June 10, 1927, in Lawrence, the son of Alvin Augustus and Ruby Dalphine Moore Haverty. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1945.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Haverty earned an engineering degree from Kansas University in 1951 and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Following graduation from KU, he worked for General Motors from 1951 to 1954 in Kansas City, Kan.
Mr. Haverty had been a Hutchinson resident since 1954. He went to work with his father-in-law at Arlie Boyer Motor Company in Hutchinson. He then followed with a 40-year career in Hutchinson real estate at Kline-Haverty Realtors and retired with Astle Real Estate Co.
He belonged to Trinity United Methodist Church, and served as president of the Hutchinson Chapter of the American Cancer Society, past president of the Hutchinson Jaycees, member of the Hutchinson-Reno County Chamber of Commerce and past president of the Ambassador Club. He also served on the Boy Scout Council, as a member of the Hutchinson Kiwanis Club and as president of the Hutchinson Board of Realtors.
He married Marcia Jane Boyer on Oct. 27, 1950, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Mike, Leawood; two daughters, Janet Dusch, St. Louis, and Kathi Wingert, Rogers, Ark.; two brothers, Charles and Alvin “Beb,” both of Lawrence; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mark.
