John Joseph Ziegelmeyer 1918 - 2009 Kansas City, Kan.
A Mass of Christian Burial for John Joseph Ziegelmeyer, 91, Kansas City, Kan., will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Roeland Park. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
Mr. Ziegelmeyer died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009.
He was born Jan. 16, 1918, in Rosedale, the son of Irene Sims Ziegelmeyer and Otto Ziegelmeyer. He attended Holy Name Grade School, Rosedale High School and Kansas City Kansas Junior College.
He graduated in 1938 from Kansas University, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and from the KU Law School in 1941. He was admitted to Kansas Bar in 1941.
Also in 1941, he joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was stationed in Atlanta, East St. Louis, Ill., and Kansas City. He began practicing law in Kansas City, Kan., in 1946 with Williamson, Cubbison and Vaughan, and independently for more than 60 years.
He was a member of the Ex-Agents of the FBI and Kiwanis. He had served as the chairman of the Red Cross during the 1951 flood, on the board of Donnelly College and as a past president and a member of Milburn Country Club for more than 50 years. His memberships also included the Kansas City Club and Garden of the Gods Club. He served on the board of the First State Bank and was a member of St. Agnes Church.
He married Mary Jeanne Fitz-Gerald on Oct. 4, 1941, in Washington, D.C. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Molly Ziegelmeyer Helling, Dallas, and Martha Ziegelmeyer Suess, San Antonio; a son, John Joseph Ziegelmeyer Jr., Lawrence; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Joseph A. Butler & Son Funeral Home, 19th and Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan., where a rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m.
