Julianne M. Pottorf Oskaloosa
Funeral services for Julianne M. Pottorf, 82, Oskaloosa, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Oskaloosa United Methodist Church, 402 Liberty St. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.
Mrs. Pottorf died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at the F.W. Huston Geriatric Center and Hospice Room in Winchester.
She was born Sept. 20, 1927, in McLouth, the daughter of Walter Richard and Lila J. Foreman Means. A lifelong resident of Oskaloosa, she was a 1945 graduate of Oskaloosa High School and a 1952 graduate of Stormont-Vail School of Nursing.
Mrs. Pottorf was a registered nurse and founder of the Jefferson County Health Department in 1967 and served as its director for 21 years, retiring on Jan. 1, 1988.
She was a member of Oskaloosa United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 36 and the Ladies Moose Lodge of Topeka. She was a member and past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 62, Oskaloosa, and served as the grand page.
She married Marlin A. “Bud” Pottorf on Sept. 17, 1954, in Oskaloosa. He survives, of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Saralee Garren and Shelley Cunningham, both of Oskaloosa; a sister, Nancy Reed, Oskaloosa; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, David M. Pottorf; and a grandson, Jacob Pottorf.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with Eastern Star services conducted at 8 p.m., at Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, 820 Liberty St., Oskaloosa.
