James Arthur Hane 1943 - 2009 Lawrence
Mass of Christian Burial for James Arthur Hane, 65, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Mr. Hane died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at his home.
He was born Dec. 26, 1943, in Emporia, the son of Arthur and Henrietta Heaney Hane.
Mr. Hane graduated from Hayden High School in Topeka and attended Rockhurst College and Washburn University. He served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1968 in the Army Security Agency. He spent 18 months in Ethiopia and 18 months in Vietnam.
Mr. Hane worked for many years for Crane and Company in Topeka and Lawrence as an office machinery repairman. He also worked as a locksmith for Rueschhoff for several years. Mr. Hane owned and operated Mobile Locksmith Shop in Lawrence. He was a lector at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and a volunteer for Audio Reader. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and spending time with his family.
He married Mary Ellen Hayes on Aug. 24, 1968, in Topeka. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Scott and wife Audrey, Wichita, and Christopher and wife Kristy, Olathe; two sisters, Kathy Hurla and husband Dave, and Terri Otto; three brothers, Jeff, Charlie and wife Vickie, and Steve and wife Amy, all of Topeka; five grandchildren, Jack, Ben, Madisen, Joe and Drew Hane; and many nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials to the Nothing But Net Foundation that provides mosquito nets to the needy in Africa, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. Family will meet friends from then until 9 p.m.
