Harley Jay Yoder

Funeral services for Harley Jay Yoder, 82, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Lawrence Free Methodist Church in Lawrence. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Yoder died Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at Rossville Mental Health and Rehabilitation Center, Rossville.
He was born May 8, 1927, in Lawrence, the son of Jona P. and Mary Ellen Roth Yoder.
He graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his military service, he attended Kansas University. He received a bachelor’s degree in business with an accounting major from KU in 1955. He worked as an accountant, office manager and secretary/treasurer for the Lawrence Paper Company. He also worked as controller for Reuter Organ Company.
Mr. Yoder was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Fraternity and received the Delta Sigma Pi Honorary Award his senior year at KU. He was a past president of the Lawrence Noon Kiwanis Club. He was a lifelong member of Lawrence Free Methodist Church, where he served in many positions including building chairman for two building projects, church treasurer and conference treasurer for the Great Plains Conference.
He married Cleo B. Hayes on June 22, 1947, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Stanley J. and Stephen K. and wife Mary, all of Lawrence; seven grandchildren, Amy Johnson, Lori Jenicke, Janice Maddux and Andy, Heidi, Elizabeth and Lynn Yoder; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
The family suggests memorials to the church, Kansas Hospice in Topeka or Rossville Mental Health and Rehabilitation Center, sent in care of the mortuary.
