Elmer Robert Johanning 1918 - 2009 Lawrence
Funeral services for Elmer Robert Johanning, 91, Lawrence, will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Johanning died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at the Colmery-O’Neil Veterans Medical Center in Topeka.
He was born April 29, 1918, in Worden, the son of Otto L. and Ottilie L. Schaake Johanning.
Mr. Johanning served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a farmer and implement dealer. He farmed in Kanwaka Township. He was co-owner of Johanning Implement Inc., a Case dealership, until its closing in 1986.
He was a member of the Power of the Past Antique Tractor Club and the Case Heritage Eagle Club. He was known as “The Case Man.”
Mr. Johanning married Thelma B. Northcutt on Feb. 14, 1953, in Kansas City, Kan. She died March 21, 1998.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Penny, in 2006.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Wakeman and husband Richard, Lawrence; a son, Robert and wife Jolynn, Olathe; two brothers, Harold “Zeke” and Glenn, both of Lawrence; and seven grandchildren, Curtis, Joanna and Stuart Wakeman, Daniel Johanning, Jacquelynn, Sophia and Julian Neat.
The family will greet friends from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
The family suggests memorials to Douglas County 4-H Foundation Scholarship fund or to the Colmery-O’Neil Veterans Medical Center in Topeka, sent in care of the mortuary.
