Steven Carl Hird 1950 - 2009 Lawrence

Funeral service for Steven Carl Hird, 58, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Hird died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at the VNA Care Cottage in Lawrence. He was a lifelong resident of Lawrence.
He was born Sept. 16, 1950, in Lawrence, the son of Carl Jr. and Irene M. Hoover Hird.
Mr. Hird graduated in 1968 from Lawrence High School, where he was active and lettered in football, basketball and track. He was also a member of the Lawrence summer baseball leagues. He received a football scholarship to Fort Hays State University.
He received a bachelor’s degree in biology in 1974 and his master’s degree in physical science in 1979 from Fort Hays State University. From 1974 until 1980, he was a teacher and coach in Hutchinson.
Mr. Hird was a property owner and property manager in Lawrence. He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church. He was also a member of Triangle fraternity and Landlords of Lawrence Inc.
Survivors include a sister, Pamela Sue Hird, Lawrence; an uncle; and many cousins.
The family will greet friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
The family suggests memorials to the science department at Fort Hays State University, sent in care of the mortuary.
