Lynn McCormick

Memorial services for Lynn McCormick, 80, Lawrence, will be held at a later date. Inurnment will take place in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
She died Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at Harbor House.
She was born April 24, 1929, in Chicago, the daughter of Carl and Beulah Lewis Devard. She grew up in Marion, Ill.
She attended Milton College in Wisconsin. Out of school she was a journalist. Later she moved to Omaha, Neb., where she was a homemaker, raised children and started a bookstore at the Methodist College School of Nursing.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carbondale, Ill., and previously in Omaha, Neb., where she was involved in the Stephen Ministry. In 1977 she received a leadership award from the Nebraska Community Improvement Program for her involvement with the Rockbrook School Creative Playground. She was also an AmeriCorps Promise Fellow.
She was a founding member of the Holistic Health Network in Omaha. She was involved in the Usui System of Reiki Healing and also the MariEL Method Alternative of Total Healing and other alternative healing methods.
She married William McCormick in 1959 in Chicago. They later divorced. He preceded her in death April 3, 2002.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Carl Devard, in 2009.
Survivors include one daughter, Melissa McCormick and husband Ed Noonen, Lawrence; and one son, Jay, Chicago.
The family suggests memorials to the National Parkinson Foundation, Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of the donor’s choice, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
