James Matthew LeValley

Ottawa — Funeral services for James Matthew LeValley, 84, of Ottawa, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa, with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 5901, Ottawa. Burial will be in De Soto Cemetery.
Mr. LeValley died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009.
He was born June 15, 1925, in Iola, the son of George H. and Florence M. Jones LeValley. He lived in Ottawa since he was a young man. He had also lived in De Soto but returned to Ottawa in 1954.
He served in the U.S. Army from April of 1944 to November of 1949.
Mr. LeValley worked for Willis Nursery in Ottawa; drove a Manor Bread route; was employed by Baldwin Box Factory; and was a security guard for Hercules Ammunition Plant in De Soto for 29 years, retiring in 1987.
He attended Trinity Methodist Church and First Christian Church, both of Ottawa. He was a member of American Legion Warren Black Post 60 in Ottawa and the Good Sams Camping Club. He was a board member of the Ottawa Senior Center and the Girls Club of Ottawa, and was a volunteer for Hope House of Ottawa.
He married Mary Jane Toumberlin in 1944. She preceded him in death in 1956. He married Edith Plummer on May 12, 1972, in Ottawa. She survives, of their home.
Other survivors include a son, Charles F., Olathe; two daughters, Bonnie Y. Warren and husband Richard, Branson, Mo., and Mary Jean Kitt of Osage City; five grandchildren, Frank Hopkins, Brian D. Hopkins, Jeannie M. Coehn, Stephanie Herrick and Darin J. Kitt; and five great-grandchildren
He was also preceded in death by his parents and two sons, James Albert and Victor.
Friends may call after 9 a.m. Thursday at the Dengel & Son Mortuary, where the family will meet them from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Midland Hospice or Franklin County Cancer Foundation, sent in care of the mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, KS 66067.
