E. Rosadel ‘Rosie’ Albert 1925 - 2009 McPherson
McPherson — Funeral services for E. Rosadel “Rosie” Albert, 89, of McPherson, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Glidden-Ediger Chapel, McPherson. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery.
Miss Albert died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, at McPherson Care Center.
She was born April 25, 1920, in McPherson, the daughter of William H. and Verda Naomi Nelson Albert. She spent summers with her grandparents in Lawrence and attended church with them. She graduated from McPherson High School in 1938.
She attended Kansas University and Emporia State Teachers College, then entered Evangelical Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in 1942 and graduated as a registered nurse in 1946. She then attended Scarritt College at Nashville, Tenn.
She had worked as a school teacher and a bookkeeper in the county clerk and county treasurer’s office in McPherson. From 1947 until 1959, she was a missionary nurse in Honduras. In 1959 she returned to McPherson, where she worked as a nurse for Dr. J. Richard Johnson until she retired in April of 1984.
Miss Albert was a member of First Christian Church, where she was an active member and leader, serving as Sunday school teacher from 1962 until 1987. She also had served as an elder and was a member of Churches United in Ministry.
She was a volunteer for the McPherson County Food Bank, served on the board of the McPherson Senior Center and volunteered to do blood pressure screenings at the center, and also served on the McPherson Resource Council.
Surviving family members include a brother-in-law, Herb Heidebrecht, of McPherson, a nephew, Mark Heidebrecht, McPherson; a niece, Laura Pyle, McPherson; a great-niece, a great-nephew, and two step-great-nieces; and other relatives.
Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Glidden-Ediger Chapel, McPherson, where the family will meet them from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The family suggests memorials to First Christian Church Scholarship Fund or the McPherson County Food Bank, sent in care of the Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home; 222 W. Euclid St., McPherson, KS 67460.
