Velma L. Newell Lawver
Funeral services for Velma Leone Newell Lawver, 94, Lawrence, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Hawley Cemetery near Nash, Okla.
Mrs. Lawver died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, at Brandon Woods at Alvamar.
She was born Oct. 17, 1914, near Nash, the daughter of Oral “Dick” and Maude Bell Newell. She attended schools in Nash.
Mrs. Lawver was a homemaker.
She married James Vane Spillman on March 15, 1941. He preceded her in death March 21, 1971.
She later married Jerome Thomas Spillman. He preceded her in death Jan. 11, 1978.
She married Art Lawver on July 1, 1980. He preceded her in death in May 2000.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Virgil, Don, Forest, Glen and Loren; and two sisters, Lola Loy and Vera Wagar.
Survivors include a daughter, Elaine Jae Penny and husband Don, Lawrence.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. before services Saturday at the funeral home. A reception will follow the service at Trinity Episcopal Church.
The family suggests memorials to the Hawley Cemetery or Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care, sent in care of the funeral home.
