Wilbur Rothwell

Funeral services for Wilbur Rothwell, 86, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Rothwell died Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at his home.
He was born July 19, 1922, in Jefferson County, the son of Thurman Allen and Mable Florence Carr Rothwell. He was raised in Lecompton but lived most of his life in Douglas County.
Mr. Rothwell served in the U.S. Army 87 Signal Corps in the European theater during World War II.
He worked at E & E Display Group for 19 years. He retired in 1987. He also was an auto mechanic and farmer. He bought, repaired and sold old and antique tractors. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Mount Oread Aerie 309 in Lawrence.
He married Velma McKenzie on July 3, 1946. They divorced. He married Donna Evans on Dec. 1, 1980, in Miami, Okla. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include three sons, Steve and companion Marlene Humphrey, Don and wife Kenna, and Tim and wife Lani, all of Lawrence; two sisters, Ruth Vervynck, Lawrence, and Jane Childs, Belleview, Neb.; nine grandchildren, Dustin, Michael, Jessica, Lynne, Becky, Jennifer, Heather, Paige and Whitney; seven great-grandchildren, Zander, Isabella, Piper, Gracelynne, Calvin, Avery and Alaric; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and a sister.
The family will meet friends from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care, sent in care of the mortuary.
