Rodney Blane Ball

Memorial services for Rodney Blane Ball, 76, rural Lawrence, will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lawrence Funeral Chapel.
Mr. Ball died Friday, April 17, 2009, at his home.
He was born Sept. 25, 1932, in Calico Rock, Ark., the son of William Winiferd and Amy Conrad Ball. He graduated from Calico Rock High School in 1950, and later attended Kansas University and beautician school.
He was a corporal in the 7th Cavalry of the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Ball worked more than 25 years as a beautician until 1980. He then worked for the Veterans Administration in the VA Medical Center in Topeka until retiring in 1997.
Mr. Ball enjoyed gardening, camping, canoeing, boxing, karate and visiting with family and friends. He was a devout Christian.
He married Mary H. Tate on May 25, 1958. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, William Rodney “Bill,” Lawrence, and Steven L. and wife Kimberly, Longview, Texas; two brothers, Jessie and Noel; two sisters, Snowdean Arnold and Pauline Stephens; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Duane and Donald.
The family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until the service time Tuesday.
The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, sent in care of the chapel.
