Charles F. Steinbacher

A memorial Mass for Charles F. “Charlie” Steinbacher, 70, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Inurnment will be at a later date at Great Bend Cemetery.
Mr. Steinbacher died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 29, 1938, in Great Bend, the son of Charles F. and Eulalia Brehm Steinbacher. He received a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Kansas University in 1971.
Mr. Steinbacher worked as a professional engineer at Evans, Bierly, Hutchison and Associates in Lawrence. He was retired.
He was a member of the Lawrence Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars Alford-Clarke Post 852 in Lawrence, the Noon Rotary Club, American Council of Engineering Companies and the National Society of Professional Engineers.
Mr. Steinbacher married Patricia Ann Schroeder. She died on April 20, 2007.
He also was preceded in death by a daughter, his parents and a brother.
Survivors include a daughter, Katherin Steinbacher and husband Frank McMahon, Lawrence; a son, Matthew, Lawrence; two brothers, Pete, Chatsworth, Calif., and Jim, Scottsdale, Ariz.; four sisters, Laura Ann Schenkel, Great Bend, Mary Lou Steinbacher, Lakewood, Colo., Jolene Romme, Burleson, Texas, and Jeanne Hollembeak, Wichita; two stepgranddaughters, Kaci Kesinger and Melanie McMahon; and a stepgreat-granddaughter, Sydney Kesinger.
A parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. The family will meet friends until 8:30 p.m. Friday.
The family suggests memorials to the Knights of Columbus in Lawrence or the KU School of Engineering, sent in care of the mortuary.
